Rustem Khamitov: “Horse-breeding and kumis are the ready-made national brands of Bashkortostan”
“From the point of view of economics horse-breeding and kumis are the ready-made national brands” – the President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov said on July 8 at the gathering re development of horse-breeding – “We have nothing to create since our forefathers had already done that for us”.
In the course of many years horse-breeding was the base of Bashkir economics.
“The whole country knows quite well that if the kumis (horse milk) is of Bashkir origin, it means it is the best. Same can be said about horse-breeding. The availability of the ready-made brands is a serious competitive advantage so it is important that the economics of horse-breeding would be sufficient, being of benefit for the Republic”.
At present time Bashkortostan produces more than two thousand of horse milk annually, while just slightly more than three thousand tons is produced in Russia in a whole. Only the anti-tuberculosis clinics of the country need about 20 thousand tons of it every year and the needs of the trade companies exceed this figure several times.
“At present time we face great market demand in this product” – the President of Bashkortostan said – “And in order to meet it we have to start working systematically and to work up the general strategy for development of horse-breeding in the Republic”.
