Shulgan-Tash is nominated for UNESCO list of cultural heritage
The cave of Shulgan-Tash, also known as Kapova Cave, is nominated for the list of UNESCO cultural heritage. This proposal was ventilated by the Vice-Premier of the Government RB Zugura Rakhmatullina at the meeting with the delegation of Russian Commission on UNESCO affairs.
“This famous archeological monument is worthy to present not only our Republic but Russia too in the list of UNESCO international cultural heritage” – she said – “Such status will stand for absolutely another level of care of this monument”.
The idea of Zugura Rakhmatullina was supported by the head of the delegation, the Commission’s chairman Gregory Ordjonikidze.
“We absolutely agree that the object “Shulgan-Tash” should be included into this list” – he said – “And we render our all-sided assistance to that. The cave can be nominated for “Cultural landscape” and the object fully meets the requirements for this category”. But this process can be rather long. First the workgroup, consisting of historians and other specialists, should prepare necessary documentation for the object’s inclusion into the preliminary Russian list. After that the object will be nominated on the international level, so the whole process can take several years. Besides, there is already the whole queue of the objects, pretending to be included into the Russian list. For example, not long ago a group of Russian kremlins was nominated, consisting of the ancient fortresses in Astrakhan, Pskov and Yaroslavl. At the same time Gregory Ordjonidze has promised the cave will receive a priority because there are still no other objects, included into the list of UNESCO cultural heritage, on the territory of Bashkiria.
