Financial competence will beat “bankophobia”
The National Bank RB and public organizations of the region signed the cooperation memorandum, struggling for financial competence of population. The parties have agreed to inform citizens about bank products, including the products for small and medium business, more actively and for that they intend to hold various courses, seminars and consultations – for wide circles of population as well as for the categories of citizens, professionally interested in bank services – students, economists, businessmen and journalists. Bankers will work up recommendations on various questions, reference and statistical materials and hold sociological investigations to the most actual subjects jointly with the activists. In opinion of the parties these measures have to raise the population confidence in banks and, as a consequence, to stimulate the demand in bank services and products. The document is signed by the chairman of the National Bank RB Rustem Mardanov, the chairman o f the Bashkir division on protection of consumer rights in the market of financial services “The Union of Consumers of financial services” Elena Sitdikova and by the director of the non-commercial partnership “The Higher Business Undertakings School” Dmitry Grachev. The list of the memorandum’s participants can be widened.
The rise of population financial competence is considered one of the prior directions in activity of the Bashkir bank sector in particular and of the Russian bank sector in a whole.
“We have to start maximal explanatory activity” – the President of the Russian Banks Association Garegin Tosunyan said at the scientific-practical conference “Banks, Processes, Standards, Quality”, held in Ufa on March – “People should understand what is credit, for example, because many have the sense that they come to the banks for help but banks are not charitable organizations. Any bank is a commercial organization, which renders certain services one has to pay for”.
According to M-r Tosunyan financial competence is the main instrument in struggle with so-called “bankophobia”. In the professional bank slang this notion means a sort of social disease, expressing in population distrust in the banks and, accordingly, in not enough demand in the bank services.
