February 4 is the World Day of struggle with oncological diseases


The Day of struggle with oncological diseases is marked on February 4 all over the world every year and this date is established by the International Union for struggle against cancer in 2005 for attraction of public attention to this global problem.

Cancer is considered the leading death reason in the world and according to information of the World Health Organization (WHO) 84 million people will die because of cancer within the period between 2005 and 2015 without appropriate interference. The most wide-spread forms of cancer among men are the cancer of lungs, stomach, liver, large intestine, gullet and prostate and among women – the cancer of lungs, mammary gland, stomach, large intestine and cervix of the uterus.

By the level of cancer sickness rate and death rate Russia can be comparable with many European countries, such as France, the Great Britain and Ireland.

In 2009 the level of cancer sickness rate in Russia was 335,9 cases per 100 thousand people and the level of death rate from cancer – 206,9 lethal outcomes per 100 thousand people. More than 480 thousand newly revealed cases of malignant growths are registered in the country every year and the growth of cancer sickness rate exceeded 14% for the last decade.

The level of cancer sickness rate in Bashkiria in 209 was 275,7 cases per 100 thousand people. About 70 thousand people are registered as cancer patients in the Republic at present time. The tendency to the rise of the number of cancer cases in the region remains the same as well as in the whole world and the growth of cancer sickness rate makes up 0,5% every year.
