Development of the Republic for 19 years


October 11 is the Republic Day. The Federal State Statistics Service in Bashkortostan reports how the region was developing in the course of 19 years.

During the whole period Bashkortostan remained one of the biggest industrial and agricultural regions of the country. Before 1999 development of Bashkir economics was characterized by lowering of the main indices. After 1999 we observe stabilization and stable growth. Though the financial crisis affected all spheres of activity, the accumulated potential was able to soften the negative influence of the crisis. Bashkortostan today is still the leader by the main economic showings and it is found in the Top 10 of Russian regions by the volume of its gross regional product, investments into the fixed capital, consumer indices and housing construction.

Bashkortostan stands on the seventh place in Russia by population and on the first in Volga federal district. At the beginning of the year more than four million people resided on its territory.

Bashkortostan is found among the best regions by the level of birth rate, expected life span and other social and demographic indices.

The Republic is stably found in the list of the regions with low death rate. In 2008 the death rate coefficient made up 13,7 per one thousand citizens, in January-August 2009 – 13,2 (14,6 and 14,3 in Russia correspondingly). The result of the death rate lowering and birth rate growth is the natural increase of population.

2,7% of economically active population RF is concentrated in Bashkortostan . In 2008 more than 1,8 million people were occupied in economics, including 21%  - in industrial production, 14% in forestry and agriculture, 12% — in building and transport, 11% — in education and 7% — in health and social sphere. Every fourth citizen works in sphere of small business.

In 1999-2008 industrial production in Bashkortostan grew up 1,8 times. Bashkortostan is one of the biggest agrarian Russian regions. Possessing more than seven million hectares of agricultural lands our Republic produces 4% of the whole Russian agricultural output. By this index Bashkortostan stably stands in the Top 5. Agricultural production increased 1,5 times, as compared with 2000. The Republic holds the leading place in the country by the livestock of cattle and horses, production of milk and honey, the second place – by production of potato, the third – by meat production, the fifth – by the livestock of pigs, the sixth – by production of grain, eggs and livestock of sheep and goats.

In the course of 19 years Bashkortostan is found in the Top 10 of Russian leaders by the amount of investments into the fixed capital and housing construction.

Since 1990 the Republic puts 1,6 million square meters of dwelling into operation every year.

Special attention is paid to realization of social programs in the Republic. Thus, general education schools with 180,4 thousand seats, kindergartens with 33,8 thousand seats, hospitals with 8,1thousand seats, polyclinics for 19,5 thousand visits and sanatoriums with 2,9 thousand seats were erected in Bashkortostan since 1990.

By the index of retail trade turnover Bashkortostan held the 68th place in 1990, the 30th – in 1999 and the 11th — in 2008.

The geography of external trade RB covers more than 100 word countries. Fuel-energy resources make the lion’s share in the export structure and machine-building prevails in Bashkir import.

The accumulated foreign capital in Republican economics made up 506,4 million USD on January 1, 2009.

Bashkortostan remains one of the regions-donors of Russian budget system. In the first half of 2009 the Republic occupied the sixth position by tax intakes into the Russian budget and the eighth by the revenues of regional consolidated budgets.

A money income is one of the main indices of population’s life level. Thus, the average monetary income per capita in January-August 2009 made up 14634, 9 rubles monthly. The real disposable money incomes increased by 0,9% as compared with the same period of time in 2008. The rates of growth of money incomes were higher than in many Russian regions for the last several years.
