7 specialized polling stations for people with limited mobility operate in Bashkiria

In Bashkiria, about 240 thousand people with disabilities will vote in the elections to the State Duma of Russia. More than 8 thousand of them are visually impaired. All of them can vote at home, as well as visit seven specialized polling stations: in Ufa, at the Ufa Medical College (Richard Sorge Street) and at the Center for the Creativity of Disabled People (Kustarnaya Street), in the city of Belebey (three precincts) and one each in Beloretsk and Sterlitamak.

All of them are equipped with guide handrails, ramps. Elena Lysova, Head of the Public Relations and Information Department of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Bashkortostan, spoke about this at a briefing at the Public Press Center "Elections-2021" in Ufa.

“Today, about 80% of polling stations in the republic are equipped with ramps or staff call buttons. If they are not there, volunteers are on duty who are always ready to offer their help,” she said.

Voters with visual impairments will be offered special stencils for voting and magnifying glasses. The sites will be attended by representatives of the society of the blind and volunteers.

Recall that a new composition of State Duma deputies is being elected in Russia for three days — September 17, 18, and 19. In addition, voting for the deputies of the State Assembly is taking place in three districts of the republic. In Ufa, Beloretsk, Birsk, the Ufimsky region, and the Yumatovsky village council — the deputies of local councils. By-elections to the councils are taking place in many cities and districts.
