Peskov commented on removal of Russian flag at World Draughts Championships with participation of Tansykkuzhina
The Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called the situation with the removal of the Russian flag during the match for the title of draughts world champion an unfortunate incident. The matches for the world crown in international draughts take place in Poland from April 23 to May 3.
Ufa draughts player Tamara Tansykkuzhina is the reigning world champion; the contender for the title is the Polish woman Natalia Sadovska. The incident occurred on Tuesday during the fourth round of the matches and was captured on video. The flags of the countries were on the table next to both participants. During the game, a man came up to the table. He removed the Russian flag from it and also peeled off the plate with the tricolor image.
The Russian draughts player conceded with a score of 16:32 after four rounds.
"This is a very unfortunate incident, but as far as I know, the chairman of the corresponding federation has already apologized, so I think that this case should be considered settled ... I know that our athlete lost this match and, of course, I think that her loss is largely due to this incident", RIA Novosti news agency quotes Peskov.
The main complaint was that the flag was removed during the game when the athletes were concentrated. Besides, as it can be seen on the video, it was after the removal of the flag that the Russian player was distracted by the situation.
