Creative experiment and world premiere: Bashkir Opera stages modern Vita Nuova
The Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater is preparing for the world premiere of the "Vita Nuova" opera ("New Life ") by Vladimir Martynov. The premiere is scheduled for March 5 and 6.
The New Life opera was written by the Mariinsky Theater order in 2003, performed in concert at Valery Gergiev's Easter Festival, and received very conflicting responses.
It was created based on the work of the same name by Dante Alighieri. Dante's Vita Nuova is an autobiographical work written after the death of the poet's beloved Beatrice. The collection "Vita Nuova" can be called a harbinger of the "Divine Comedy". Vladimir Martynov and Eduard Boyakov wrote the libretto. The artists will sing in Latin, Russian, and Italian.
Musical director and conductor of the play "Vita Nuova" – is the Honored Artist of Bashkortostan, award winner of the Russian National Theater Prize "Golden Mask" Artyom Makarov. The stage director is the 2nd-degree award winner of the 4th International competition of young opera directors "Nano-Opera" (2019) Elizaveta Korneeva.
The director noted that she was in constant contact with the composer, and the performance was being created in close cooperation with him. If the epidemiological situation allows, Vladimir Martynov will come to the premiere.
The production designer is Ekaterina Ageniy. This creative tandem has embodied the opera "Moonlight World" by Joseph Haydn on the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater stage. Video animator — winner of Russian and international film festivals Liana Makaryan (Moscow).
The choreographer is Mitya Fedotenko (France), creator of over 20 performances at the fusion of dance, theater, music, contemporary circus, and performing arts. The "Vita Nuova" became For the dancer the first experience of cooperation with Bashkir Opera Theater and his debut as a choreographer of an opera.
The production is financed by a grant from the All-Russian public-state organization "Russian Cultural Fund".
