Industrial production decline developed less than forecasted in Russia - Rosstat


By the end of 2020, the Russian industry decreased by 2.9%, according to Rosstat. Earlier, the government predicted a fall of 4.1%. This is the first decline in industrial production since 2009, reminds The Bell. Then the indicator fell by 10.7%.

According to the results of the last year, the following industries showed the most decrease:

— extraction of nonmetallic minerals, including sand and gravel — by 15.4%;

— production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers — by 11.6%;

— leather industry — by 12.4%;

— oil and gas production — by 8.1%;

— coal mining — by 6.3%;

— production of coke and petroleum products — by 3%;

— metallurgical production — by 2.4%.

The government expects the industry to catch up in 2021 and grow by 2.6%, in 2022 by 3.6%, and in 2023 by 2.3%.

At the end of 2019, industry accounted for almost 30% of the Russian GDP.

In Bashkiria, in January-November, industrial production decreased by 2.8% compared to 11 months of 2019. A negative trend was observed in the extraction of minerals (88.8% against January-November 2019), manufacturing (98.5%), the supply of electricity, gas, steam (92.9%).
