HIV mortality quadrupled in Bashkiria for nine years
December 1 is World AIDS Day. Over the entire observation period in Bashkiria, since 1987, 35.5 thousand HIV-infected people have been laboratory identified. At the end of September 2020, the number of people living with this diagnosis was 24.4 thousand people.
HIV deaths in the region have quadrupled over the past nine years. According to Bashkortostan Statistics Agency, in 2010, mortality from HIV infection was 3.8 cases per 100 thousand people, in 2019 — 15.7. The average age of men and women who died due to this is 40-41 years.
According to the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor, in January-September 2020, 1343 cases of diseases and asymptomatic status caused by HIV were registered in Bashkiria — 1.5% less than the corresponding period last year.
The incidence rate for 9 months of this year was 44.5 per 100 thousand people (January-September 2019 — 45).
In 2019, 634 people died from HIV-related diseases: 446 men and 188 women. 75% of deaths from HIV are urban residents.
HIV infection has long gone beyond risk groups and is actively spreading, doctors warn. The most effective remedy in the fight against AIDS is prevention.
