Bashkiria ranks second in country in terms of social enterprises number
193 organizations of Bashkiria were included in the Unified Register of Social Enterprises of Russia based on the results of their activities in 2019. According to this indicator, the republic is second in the country — the Moscow region has become the absolute leader.
The register of social enterprises could include organizations that employ people classified as socially unprotected categories of citizens, sell goods and services produced by them or for them. Besides, companies providing socio-pedagogical, socio-psychological services, as well as those working in additional education, caring for and looking after the elderly, and others, could apply to join the list.
In total, 250 organizations applied for inclusion in the register in the republic; the interdepartmental commission approved 193 of them. Most of the applicants were from the cities of Kumertau, Belebey and Ufa. According to Irina Abramova, head of the Center for Social Sphere Innovations, the overwhelming number of companies in the regional register are engaged in employment of socially vulnerable citizens, provide educational or social services.
"We see a very uneven number of entrepreneurs included in the register in the regions," explained Irina Abramova. "Firstly, in my opinion, it really reflects the well-developed sector of social entrepreneurship in Bashkortostan. There are indeed many entrepreneurs in the republic who work in this industry. And secondly, it is an indicator of the excellent teamwork of the State Committee for Entrepreneurship, business sheriffs, and the Center for Social Sphere Innovations."
