Rustem Khamitov: "I will do my best to assist Bashkir State University in receiving flagship university status"

On January 25, in Ufa, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov met with students of the Bashkir State University (BSU) and congratulated them on the Day of Russian Students.
Before the meeting in the lobby of Physics and Mathematics Department the Head of the Republic visited the "Tatyana's Day" exhibition,dedicated to scientific research and creative work of BSU students.
In his speech the Head of the Region mentioned the issues of socio-economic development, scientific and technological progress, support for youth initiatives, education system improvement.
Answering the students' questions, the Head of the Region marked that at present work was actively being carried out on obtaining a status of flagship university by BSU. So far in the republic only Ufa State Petroleum Technological University is a holder of such status, which is also a flagship institution of Gazprom. The Bashkir State Pedagogical University named after M. Akmulla was given a status of flagship academic university.
"I will do my best to assist Bashkir State University in receiving a flagship university status. This is a new benchmark not only in terms of self-awareness. It has a financial component and some features regarding the educational process organization", Rustem Khamitov said.
Speaking about the development of Ufa as a congress centre, the Head of Bashkortostan reported that in May the republican capital may host the 4th conference of the global sociological societies heads with participation of 70-80 countries. In the future, this will allow our republic to bid for hosting international sociological forums.
The questions of students addressed to the Head of the Republic were related to manufacturing application of innovations developed by young people, employment, public transport, environment, development of amateur talent shows and sports, as well as personal issues.
After the meeting, Rustem Khamitov visited a Thermometry Laboratory Geophysics Department of Bashkir State University. For several years, members of the department carry out research projects for global oil companies — Schlumberger and Total. These companies prepare specialists here at their own expense organizing practice and training of students, undergraduates and graduate students abroad. The department also conducts a thermometry project with Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SKOLTECH).
