The elections of deputies to the State Duma in September 2016 passed the most orderly compared to the previous political five-year periods. This was said by the Presidential Envoy to the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich at the press conference on December 6.
According to Mikhail Babich, the objectives set by the President of the Russian Federation on openness and legitimacy of the elections were achieved to a large extent.
As an example, the RF President Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District named the organization of elections in Bashkortostan, where traditionally 75-85 percent of voters casted their votes for the ruling party. "Turnout in Bashkortostan has always been high, and the attitude towards authorities more loyal. This year a little over 50 percent voted. No one was chasing for figure of 75 percent. People voted as they decided. Though there (in Bashkiria) they tried to stir the pot and continue to do it", said Mikhail Babich.
Total in the regions of the Volga Federal District 13 million people voted on September 18, 2016 (56.5 percent of the voters) with turnout by 9 percent more than in Russia. The election results are canceled at three polling stations of the district, the rest of the election declared valid. In Bashkortostan, the election results declared valid at all polling stations.
