UFA, 6 September 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. Ufa State Petroleum Technological University (USPTU) is ready to enroll students from Cuba. Negotiations on cooperation renewal in this direction are carried out with the head of HR training and development of "Union Cuba Petroleo" Mario Miradna Marquez, who arrived at USPTU. His visit is related to the intention of the Cuban oil company Cupet to send 22 students to the university to study under undergraduate and graduate programs. Mr. Marquez toured the campus, discussed with the head of international cooperation department Nail Chanishev the learning environment at the preparatory faculty, where foreign students study the Russian language and special terminology during one year.
As explained at the university, the interest in USPTU from the Cuban side is not accidental: the National Oil Company Cupet CEO Juan Torres Naranjo is the USPTU graduate of 1990. He visited his alma mater in March this year, and then a plan of cooperation in the field of retraining was scheduled.
Last year USPTU conducted training courses for more than 100 specialists of the aforementioned company in seven programs in the field of exploration, production, processing, service and marketing of oil and oil products. The training was organized and conducted both in the territory of the Republic of Cuba, and in Ufa. Lectures were held in Russian with translation into Spanish.
Currently 1,200 foreign students from 55 countries study at USPTU. The university prepares specialists not only for all areas of the fuel and energy complex — from geology to the production of marketable oil products, petrochemicals, economics, but also for the construction industry and the service sector.
USPTU is integrated into the global educational space being a member of the National Committee for Economic Cooperation with Latin America (NC CEPLA), has cooperation agreements with universities and companies from Europe, Asia, the CIS. USPTU occupies the 17th place in terms of total number of foreign citizens at all full-time programs/ study courses among the Russian universities.
