UFA, 11 July 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Arina Rakhimkulova/. Today, on July 11 the World Population Day is celebrated. According to the United Nations, July 11, 1987 the Earth's population broke the mark of five billion people. Two years later, the United Nations established an international holiday — World Population Day.
In the 21st century the issue of global warming on Earth became particularly acute, the causes of which are the overall growth of the population and extensive human activity. The latter often has a negative impact on the Earth's resources and the environment, leading to irreversible consequences. Therefore this day aims at drawing attention to population issues, programs for further development and search for solutions to common problems.
According to United Nations forecasts, by 2050 from 7.9 to 10.9 billion people will be living on the Earth. As Bashkortostan Statistics Agency reports, as of January 1 of this year, preliminary population of the republic amounted to 4 071 181 people. A decrease by 806 people (0.02 percent) is observed compared with the same period of the last year.
