Liliya Gumerova: "Inter-regional cooperation strengthen relations between Russia and Indonesia"

The First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Science, Education and Culture, the senator from Bashkortostan Liliya Gumerova held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation Wahid Supriyadi.

The Russian senator, heading the group for cooperation of the Federation Council with the Council of Indonesia regions representatives, noted that relations between the two countries, including in the trade and economic field, were actively developing. Liliya Gumerova reported that in 2014 the volume of bilateral trade turnover amounted to three billion dollars. In 2015, there was a slight decline due to objective reasons related to the situation in the world economy.

According to the parliamentarian, the strategic task set by the Russian government is to increase the volume of bilateral turnover up to five billion dollars a year.

The senator marked that the ties between Russian regions and the provinces of Indonesia were successfully extended. "It is now 30 subjects of the Russian Federation which have good relations with the different provinces of this country. We need to continue cooperation in this direction".

In particular, Liliya Gumerova informed about the interest of Bashkortostan in cooperation with the Indonesian province of West Java, said the Assistant of the legislator.

"The most interesting areas are deep processing of oil using advanced technologies, which are available in the Republic of Bashkortostan, the sphere of agriculture, as well as cooperation of Ufa Aviation Technical University with the Indonesian side", said Liliya Gumerova.

According to the legislator the bilateral inter-parliamentary ties have been actively cultivated in recent years. In 2014, a delegation headed by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko visited Indonesia, when it was decided to create a group of the Federation Council for co-operation with the Indonesian Parliament.

The meeting also discussed the increase in bilateral tourism flows, cooperation in the field of culture.

The Ambassador Waheed Supriyadi stated the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Russia, and expressed his hope for further cooperation between our countries.
