UFA, 20 May 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Ksenia Kalinina/. The "Night of Museums" campaign is gaining popularity among Russians. The survey data were presented by the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM).
In 2012, less than half of citizens (42 percent) knew about it, and in 2016 — already the majority (58 percent). The declared level of participation also rose: from ten percent in 2012 to 17 percent in 2016. Including 12 percent, who plan to participate in it for the first time this year.
According to Russians estimates, the state of museum exhibitions has improved in recent years. The share of those who consider them satisfactory, rose from 36 to 53 percent from 2008 to 2016 and those of the opposite opinion — decreased from 23 to six percent, respectively.
Among the respondents the most common form of pastime is informal socializing: 44 percent go to visit friends, 31 percent organize gatherings for family and friends at home. Social destinations are becoming increasingly popular. The proportion of respondents who during the last month visited exhibitions grew five times from 2006 to 2016 (from two to ten percent), concerts — four times (from two to eight), theatres and cinemas — two times (from five to 11 and from ten to 22, respectively). 30 percent of respondents did not manage to go out during this time. They referred to the lack of time and energy (41 percent), cash (26 percent).
