VCIOM named the most popular social networks among Russians

VKontakte remains the most popular social network among citizens of Russia for several years — it is chosen by 52 percent of Internet users. Odnoklassniki take the second place (42 percent). WhatsApp Messenger – takes the third place (18 percent) and is ahead of Facebook (13 percent) and Instagram (12 percent). The VCIOM (Russian Public Opinion Research Centre) presented data of a survey which resources are preferred by Russian citizens.
In Russia, 70 percent of citizens use the Internet. In the past three years, this share has remained largely unchanged, as the number of those who do not surf the Net (in 2014-2016 — 28-30 percent). The number of daily users has been growing steadily, reaching at present 53 percent (from five percent in 2006).
Domestic users became more attentive to protection of personal information on the Internet. The most common protective measure is antiviruses chosen by 53 percent of Russians. Every fourth user avoids publishing personal information on social networks (29 percent), uses complex passwords and changes them frequently (26 percent — from 17 in 2013).
