On March 3, at the House of the Republic the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov met with the Secretary-General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Grigory Ordzhonikidze. During the meeting they discussed prospects of cooperation with the international organization and a possibility of implementing joint projects in the republic.
The Secretary-General noted that the current cooperation of the organization with the republic was carried out within a communique signed in Paris in 2013. Many activities have already been implemented, but there are new ideas and suggestions.
“In particular, it is proposed to create the first geological park”, said Grigory Ordzhonikidze. “Now this new program is gaining momentum at UNESCO. This is actually a long-term program, and in Russia there are no such geoparks. Therefore, it will be a pilot project — the first geopark in Russia.”
The meeting also discussed the inclusion of Shulgan-Tash in the list of World Heritage of UNESCO. According to the Secretary-General of the Russian Commission, in case of passing all necessary procedures the decision on the project can be made already in 2018.
Another topic was the development of the Russian and the international network of UNESCO Chairs. In particular, Ufa Petroleum University and Ufa Aviation University submitted applications for the establishment of these departments.
