Russian society demands for a new economic policy - VCIOM

There is a demand for a new economic policy in the current Russian society. 65 percent of Russians believe that the authorities should develop economic policies other than the current one. 20 percent of respondents agree with the fact that the country's leaders should continue to operate in the previously chosen direction. The survey data are disclosed by the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM).
"New industrialization of the country" in order to overcome the crisis has found support among 26 percent of citizens, reduction of budget expenditures — among 20 percent, market reforms – 18 percent. In addition to economic measures, it was considered important to focus efforts on the development of science and education — 26 percent.
The industry ranked third in the rating of the prestige of employment spheres. 11 percent of respondents said they would like to see in the future their children and grandchildren as the employees of this particular sphere. Nevertheless, one in five (19 percent) considered the civil service as most attractive job, one in seven (15 percent) would like to be engaged in business.
The policy of import substitution declared by the Government of the country is realized with difficulty according to the majority of Russians. The main obstacles were identified as follows: inefficient work of local authorities (25 percent), lack of an overall plan for the development of industry (21), the lagging of Russian technologies (23), reluctance of businesses to invest in the development of industry (18), the lack of funds from the state (14).
