UFA, 16 September 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/.
On September 22, around the world the Day Without Car will be celebrated. Traditionally this day is offered to abandon your car and walk on foot or get to your destination (work, school, etc.) by public transport or bicycle.
The main purpose of the campaign is to remind about the negative effects of cars on the environment and to encourage reduction in use of private cars for trips around town.
Annually only in Ufa the number of cars increases on average by 30 thousand. This figure is much higher in Moscow and other major cities.
The tradition to hold World Day Without Car was born in 1998 in France. Then this day was marked in two dozen cities. In 2001, over a thousand cities in 35 countries officially joined the movement. In Ufa, for the first time this event was held in 2009.
This year, the World Day Without Car is held in the framework of the European Mobility Week, which will take place from September 16 to 22. Forty Russian cities are among the official participants of the Week 2015: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Ufa, Kaliningrad, Kazan and others. Cycle parades, campaigns, conferences aimed at promoting public and non-motorized kinds of transport, pedestrian walks, drawing public attention to the problems of urban environment preservation are planned, the press service of the Ufa administration informs.
