Rustem Khamitov attended a session of the SCO Council of Heads of States

The Council of Heads of States — participants of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) took place in Ufa on July 10. It was attended by the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov, the press-service of the head of the region informs.

Participants of the Summit summarized the Shanghai Cooperation Organization work in 2014-2015, considered the most important issues of the current activities of the organization and defined the main guidelines for further cooperation and exchange of views on topical international and regional issues.

Opening the session, the Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Ufa Summit concluded Russia's Presidency in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2015. It was aimed at further development of cooperation in all areas, strengthening the capacity and authority of the organization.

During the Russia’s Presidency in the SCO about 80 different events were conducted. At a session of the Council of Heads of States a number of important documents were signed, including the Ufa Declaration and the SCO Development Strategy up to 2025, which defined the specific tasks of cooperation for the next decade.

“The today's Summit opens a new stage in the SCO development. For the first time of the organization existence an acceptance procedure of new members is started: India and Pakistan. We have agreed to raise a status of the Republic of Belarus participation in the SCO to an observer state”, Vladimir Putin said. “In addition, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal joined the SCO family as dialogue partners.”
