Bashkortostan is interested in the revival of the Great Silk Road. This was said at a meeting with journalists of the Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television by the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov.
The Head of Bashkortostan said that the trade turnover between Bashkortostan and China currently required a significant increase.
"Today, our business is measured by not very large figures — 700 million dollars, 600 million of them are accounted for chemical, petrochemical, oil refining products supply to China. We import goods for 100 million from China. Of course, this is a very small volume. The foreign trade turnover of the republic is about 15 billion dollars. Certainly, we set a task to our manufacturers of doubling, tripling the trade volume with China in the next few years", Rustem Khamitov said.
According to the Head of the Republic, this task requires a necessary infrastructure. The Great Silk Road can also play an important role in the development of the turnover.
"I hope that the road connecting the border of Western China to Europe passing through our republic will be one of the parts of the Great Silk Road. Clearly, this is a symbiosis of major transport corridors. It's not one road and one railway line. It will be a large hub of very different transport arteries. Along this corridor the infrastructure will be formed. Enterprises and production systems serving the road will be established there. Therefore, we welcome this idea and will assist in creating elements of the Great Silk Road in the territory of our republic, and our economy will benefit from this", the Head of the Region summed up.
