On June 25, the Bashkir State Art Museum named after M.V. Nesterov opens an ambitious project — the exhibition "The image of East in the Russian art of the first half of the 20th century".
The large-scale exhibition with the support of the Ministries of Culture of Russia and Bashkortostan is conducted by the State Museum and Exhibition Centre "ROSIZO" and the A.N. Radishchev’s Saratov State Art Museum with the participation of the State Museum of Oriental Art, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Sh. Marjani Foundation for Scientific and Cultural Programs Support and Development and private collections.
The exhibition will feature paintings and graphic works of 20 artists of the first half of the twentieth century, including P. Kuznetsov, A. Lentulov, M. Saryan, I. Mashkov, R. Falk, P. Benkov, E. Lansere, I. Zhdanko, A. Volkov.
"The East stirred, inspired, transformed the Russian art. Domestic artists tried to understand its magic and energy. The Central Asia for Russian artists of the first half of the last century was a mythical region, a reason for inspiration, and sometimes just a game of imagination", the organizers of the project note.
The exhibition will run until October 1.
