In early July a development of the Russian national mobile operating system (OS) will be discussed at the BRICS Summit in Ufa. In addition, this issue will be raised at a separate meeting of the Ministers of Communications and IT of the BRICS countries in October this year. The official website of the Summit cites the Minister for Communications and the Media of Russia Nikolay Nikiforov.
At the conference "Information Technology in Military-Industrial Complex" in Tatarstan Nikolay Nikiforov said that such product should have a potentially large market in order to be profitable — access to the international market. The same relates to server operating systems, software in the field of virtualization, cloud computing, and office software.
The Minister recalled that the BRICS countries — was a huge market for IT products. "We have to make a product that will have access to hundreds of millions or even billions of multiple mobile devices worldwide, which can operate the existing ecosystem of various mobile applications and developments. To do this we need to unite with our colleagues from the BRICS group", Nikolay Nikiforov considered.
According to the Minister, currently a mobile operating system is being developed by Sailfish Holdings, which already has a joint Russian, Chinese and Finnish capital. According to the Minister, the Indian party may soon join the project.
