On May 17, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov took part in an open city festival of cycling sports "1000 Cyclists Day" dedicated to the International Cyclist Day. Together with the participants of the bike ride the Head of the Republic rode by bicycle from Lenin Square to the Soviet Square. Distance of the bicycle race was 10 kilometres. The sports festival, which is held in Ufa for the fifth time, was attended by over seven thousand people.
The Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov congratulated everyone who came to the festival: "Earlier it was called "The 1000 Cyclists Day" and now it is called the "10 Thousand Cyclists Day". Our number becomes more and more numerous. We fill the streets of Ufa. We lead a wonderful way of life. We give an example how to live and to have fun. Bike — is everything for us. Congratulations once again on a holiday!".
At the end of the bike ride Rustem Khamitov noted a positive trend in the development of cycling. "As for the cycling, we are moving forward, maybe not as fast as we would like it to be, but still there is some progress. And not only in Ufa, but in Sterlitamak, Neftekamsk, Ishimbay, in our regional centres. I urge everybody to use this type of transport. There is no need in a car when there is a bicycle. Today everybody is in high spirits. Even if there are some flaws, we do not notice them. The Cycling Union organized it all. Thanks a lot, guys. Good job!" the Head of the Republic said.
