Employees of Ufa green-house (Limonarium) collect papaya crop in these rainy spring days. There are a total of six mature trees in the greenhouse, which are good yielders.
“A fruit or correctly a berry weighs 1.5-2 kg”, the head of teaching and experimental farm of Ufa forestry college Farida Sadykova said. “Every day, we harvest a few ripe fruits and treat them our visitors.”
Papaya cannot be named a tree. Although, its second name is a melon tree. It looks more like a grassy tree-shrub. During flowering it fills the green-house with aroma of lily-of-the-valley blooming. Greenhouse famers wait harvest for a very long time — nearly 10 months. In tropical countries, the berries ripe more quickly, in just 4-6 months.
According to the staff of the Limonarium, the demand for exotic fruits has recently increased. There are even suggestions from regional restaurateurs for the supply of fruit. However, there is no industrial production in the biggest in Russia lemons garden.
In addition to papaya, visitors can taste ripe bananas, enjoy the blooming of bougainvillaea, oleander. For the first time this year wisteria broke into flowers. Lemons, forming the basis of the garden, cease blossoming. They made it good through the winter, and now the green-house farmers expect a good harvest of local citrus.
