The first wax model of the key engine unit for MS-21 aircraft is made at UMPO

JSC "Ufa Engine Industrial Association" (UMPO) in cooperation with the National Research Technological University "MISA" and Ufa State Aviation Technical University conducted the first in the history of Russian engine-building industry successful experiment on manufacturing wax model of high-precision large thin-walled titanium unit. The workpiece diameter is about 1.2 m. According to the press service of UMPO, the civil engine PD-14 will be the main motoring unit of the promising Russian aircraft MS-21.

Making of wax model for the key assembly unit is an important step towards serial production of large titanium castings at UMPO, the company reports.

The unique experiment was held at Aviation Technologies Technopark. It is located in the territory of UMPO and is a research base for joint projects of the company and universities.

JSC "Ufa Engine Industrial Association" is the Russian largest manufacturer of aircraft engines. It is engaged in development, manufacturing, service and repair of turbojet engines and pumping units, production and repair of helicopters units. It is included in the United Engine Corporation (UEC) — a wholly owned subsidiary of JSC OPK "Oboronprom" on engine assets management.
