On December 15, at the House of Republic the President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov held a meeting on the transport system development in Ufa. It was attended by members of the Government of Bashkortostan, Ufa administration representatives, heads of ministries and departments, as well as domestic and foreign experts in the field of urban development.
The head of the republic noted that the problem of transport system optimal organization is pressing for many cities in Russia and the world.
In addition to objective reasons related to peculiarities of Ufa urban landscape, the President of Bashkortostan named absence of well thought-out strategy for the integrated transport system development in Ufa as the determining factor of the existing problems.
The head of the region stressed that there were certain shortcomings in the management of the existing road traffic system.
According to Rustem Khamitov, the development of the public transport network can be one of solutions of this problem.
“To do this, public transport must be modern, comfortable, running according to the schedule, with fares and quality meeting modern requirements. Unfortunately, it is not maintained. The transport fares are high, the quality of service is quite low,” the President of Bashkortostan said. “It is time to act. People need a modern transport system in Ufa.”
The head of the Ufa administration Irek Yalalov spoke about the prospects of the urban transport system development and the results of the work done in this direction. During the discussion, the invited experts expressed their opinion — Pavel Kozlov, the Director of the Traffic Simulation Centre of the Institute of Transport Economics, the Higher School of Economics RF and Bernard Blumel, the CEO of the German company "Engineering Group BEB".
