Rustem Khamitov urged to reduce mortality for the next two years
UFA, 11 December 2014. /Bashinform News Agency, Rozaliya Valeeva/.
The President of Bashkortostan Republic Rustem Khamitov told about the necessity to reduce the mortality rates at a meeting with the heads of medical institutions and the heads of municipal administration and urban districts RB, which was held in Ufa on December10. The head of the republic criticized work of head physicians of municipal health institutions, as well as outlined the challenges facing them in reducing mortality and improving quality of services provided.
The head of the region gave objective figures that characterize dangerous, complicated trends in the national health care.
“Life expectancy in our republic is 69.7 years. We are on the 49th place on this indicator in the Russian Federation”, Rustem Khamitov said. “Our neighbours in the Volga Federal Districthave the following figures: Tatarstan — 72-plus years, Penza region — more than 71, Chuvashia, Saratov, Mordovia, Ulyanovsk, Kirov regions — all reached the figure of seventy years. We are losing people, not only in hospitals. We are losing people at traffic accidents, fires, water accidents, occupational accidents. There are a lot of suicides in the republic: we lose 1200-1300 people because of this every year. Compared to the previous years, we began to lose people of the working age. Mortality rates of people of the working age do not fall but grow. In 1990, this ratio was 441 for the Republic of Bashkortostan. In 2005, it reached 700, an increase of more than a half. Beginning in 2011, we reached the figure of 640, but in 2013 it is over 647 again. How to explain this? The same pattern can be observed in municipalities. There are municipal areas where mortality rates almost twice exceed the republican average: Baimak, Beloretsk, Abzelilovo, Nuriman, Baltachevo, Salavat, Alsheevo, Kugarchy regions.
Bashkortostan has always had crude mortality rates better than in Russia as a whole. But in 2013 the situation has changed. We have 13.1 and in Russia — 13.0. We are at the 32nd place in the Russian Federation on crude mortality rate.”
“So, we are obliged to reduce mortality in the next year and a half or two. We have to overcome the 70-year boundary. The President set a task to have the average life expectancy as 74 years by 2020. And we must achieve these indicators,” Rustem Khamitov said.
