UFA, 21 September 2014. /Bashinform News Agency/. On September 19, in Sochi the head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov attended the XIII International Investment Forum "Sochi-2014", the press service of the head of the region informs.
During the forum, the head of the republic participated in a discussion on the business breakfast of Sberbank of Russia "Balancing the budget or accelerating growth: time to choose?". Issues of maintaining macroeconomic stability as a necessary condition for economic growth were discussed. Then Rustem Khamitov visited the expositions and participated in the plenary session "Russia between Europe and Asia: a new regional policy in modern circumstances", which was opened by the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
The Vice-Chairmen of the Government of the Russian Federation Olga Golodets and Arkady Dvorkovich summed up the All-Russian contest of social development programs of the regions. Bashkortostan was awarded the Prize of A.P. Pochinok for implementation of the republican target program "The People's University of the Third Age". This program has been implemented in Bashkortostan since 2011. More than 52 thousand pensioners in the republic were trained computer skills, foreign languages, the basics of family psychology, personal hygiene and physical therapy, advanced technology in horticulture, legal, and financial awareness.
During communication with the press, Rustem Khamitov noted the special role of regions in the current economic climate.
“Our republic is reliable and stable from economic and financial point of view. Of course, we are facing quite tough time and all of us incur a deficit of resources. But we have a margin of safety. Moreover, this year we have a plus of 11 percent in the investment plan. This is a good result, and we hope that we do not lose the pace by the end of this year. I want to talk about something else — in this situation of economic stagnation it is impossible to find solutions without regions involvement. Regions should work actively; they should have necessary powers, should influence locally on economic policy, should work with large companies and participate in the strategy development. All this is very important for us,” the head of the region said.
