Vladimir Zarudnitsky was appointed new commander of Central Military District

The Russian Defense Ministry made a number of appointments of senior commanders. Vladimir Zarudnitsky was appointed new commander of Central Military District, which includes military units deployed in the territory of Bashkortostan. His predecessor Vasily Bogdanovsky was transferred to the post of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Russia, «Interfax» reports.

Prior to his appointment Vladimir Zarudnitsky headed the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of Russia. In turn, the vacant post of Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff is occupied by Lieutenant-General Andrey Kartapolov, the former Chief of Staff of the Western Military District.
