Ukrainians of Bashkortostan joined the "Shevchenko Readings" international campaign. It is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Great Bard and is held both in Ukraine and in many countries around the world where the Ukrainian diaspora lives.
On the birthday of Taras Shevchenko, March 9, public poetry readings were held at the National Ukrainian Sunday school "Zlagoda — Soglasie" of Ufa. Pupils of different nationalities and of different ages, together with teachers, parents, guests, for nearly two hours have been reciting favourite poems and prose extracts in Ukrainian, Russian, English, German, Belorussian languages, as well as works devoted to the poet. Readings were finished with a festive concert.
As reported in the national cultural Ukrainian centre "Kobzar" the event showed considerable interest in the historical figure and literary works of Taras Shevchenko and became a significant contribution to the celebration in the South Urals.
Poetry readings will be held in the near future in all Ukrainian Sunday schools and schools with studying subjects in Ukrainian language in Bashkortostan. In March, it is expected to hold a traditional competition of Shevchenko readers, exhibitions, concerts and other public events.
