Ufa filmmakers plan to make a feature film about the Great Patriotic War. According to the authors the film will be based on the story of 825 Battalion formed in one of the legions of the Wehrmacht — «Idel-Ural» — from prisoners of Tatars, Bashkirs, Chuvash and other peoples of Volga and the Urals.
“The "Phenomenon" of 825th Battalion is one of the most controversial in the history of the Great Patriotic War” the author of the project, filmmaker Aysyuak Yumagulov says. “We have no right to ignore it.”
Filming is scheduled for the eve of the grand date — the 70th anniversary of the Victory. Currently the filmmakers seeking funding of the project.
“This is a war drama, historical film, so appropriate opportunities are necessary for such projects”, Aysyuak Yumagulov says. “We won’t manage to do it without governmental support. We hope for the support of the President of the Republic. We applied for a grant for the second time.”
According to Aysyuak Yumagulov, the project has already received moral support. It was supported by Stanislav Govorukhin, Nikita Mikhalkov, Karen Shakhnazarov.
