Rustem Khamitov and Yury Akshentsov lit the Paralympic Flame in Ufa
One of the stages of Russian Paralympic Torch Relay "Sochi 2014" was held in the capital of Bashkortostan. Ufa presented the Volga Federal District in this relay.
The Paralympic Flame Lighting was held in the square in front of the Bashkir State Academic Drama Theatre named after Mazhit Gafuri.
Here a pageant based on Bashkir legends was shown. The first torchbearer was the repeated champion and winner of the world, European and Russian judo competitions Svetlana Ganieva.
Another 50 torchbearers carried the torch along Pushkin, Lenin, Communisticheskaya, Tsurupy, October Revolution, Sovietskaya, Tukaev, Karl Marx, Zaki Validi Streets.
The final celebration was held in Salavat Yulaev Square.
The final torchbearer was another judoist, winner of the Russian, Europe and world championships, Yury Akshentsov. It was he who had the honour together with the President of the republic Rustem Khamitov to light the City Paralympic Cauldron.
Note that on the eighth day of the Torch Relay, March 5, a unique ceremony of "unity" of Paralympic Flames of all regions will be held in the central square of Sochi. The Torch Relay will complete with the opening ceremony of XI Paralympic Winter Games at Fischt stadium on March 7.
