The Ministry of Regional Development RF summed up the national competition for the title of "The most comfortable urban (rural) settlement of Russia" for 2012. The city of Sterlitamak was recognized as the most comfortable in Russia among urban districts with population of 100,000 people or more. The city of Octyabrsky was also among the winners.
The competition was attended by 85 municipalities in six different categories (three for cities with different population, three for rural settlements). The prize fund was 100 million rubles.
In accordance with the order of the department, a number of urban settlements (urban districts) were also awarded honorary diplomas of the Ministry of Regional Development for development of housing and utilities infrastructure and improving accomplishment in 2012.
Letters of appreciation were received by heads of Sterlitamak — Alex Izotov, Octyabrsky — Sergey Molchanov and Mufti of Spiritual Governance for Muslims RB Nurmukhamet Nigmatullin, who made a significant contribution to the development of housing and utilities infrastructure and accomplishment of municipal entities.
