Dmitry Medvedev: «we need a new approach to economic development of regions»

The Chairman of the Government of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has analysed an economic situation in the country and prospects of its further development in the article «Time for simple decisions has passed». The article is placed today on the official webportal of the Government of Russia.

Dmitry Medvedev has offered strategy of economic growth development in Russia in the conditions of low global demand and an intensive competition. It is based on three key principles: to provide businessmen with maximum freedom in their activities, to continue innovative development and to form smaller but decentralized and as much as possible effective public sector.

The great attention is paid to issues of regional development in the article. The Chairman of the Government also noted that «the new approach to economic development in regions is necessary. Russia’s strength lies in the diversity of its regions. We should identify potential points of growth and give them targeted support. It is interesting, that in recent years the rate of economic development in regions had not depended on natural resources. The main factor is the ability of regional leaders and local elites to promote their territories without waiting for help but by attaining support for their initiatives both in society and as part of stimulating federal programs».
