Passports of citizens of the Russian Federation will be completely replaced with plastic ID cards in 2030. The head of the Federal Migration Service Konstantin Romodanovsky informed about it the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, RBC reports.
In Moscow Goznak printing house Dmitry Medvedev was shown samples of a plastic ID card and samples of similar cards circulating abroad. According to the FMS head, in 2014 regions for pilot projects will be defined and issuance of plastic cards will be launched on January 1, 2016. During the period from 2016 till 2025 both paper and plastic documents will be valid. Since 2030, plastic internal passports will completely replace paper ones.
