May 18 – International Museum Day
Every year on May 18, the International Museum Day is celebrated all over the world. It was decided to celebrate this day at the next session of the International Council of Museums in 1977. For today the International Museum Day is recognised officially in more than 150 countries of the world.
This day museums of the world open their doors, everyone can visit showrooms, see new exhibits free of charge. This day different lectures, excursions, theatrical shows and many other things are organized in museums. On the International Museum Day there are always a lot of visitors, and very many museums work by appointment therefore.
Within the limits of celebrating the International Museum Day since 1999 the action «Night of Museums» began to be spent. For the first time it was conducted in France and was called “The Spring in Museum”. In 2001 39 countries of the world took part in the event. Today it takes place in 42 countries of the world, its participants are more than 2 thousand museums.
The museum centre of Krasnoyarsk was for the first to participate in the event in the Russian Federation, since 2007 – museums of Moscow joined it. In Ufa the action is spent for the third year. The main objective is to show resources, possibilities and potential of modern museums, to attract visitors.
