Today Local Government Day is celebrated for the first time in Russia
Today in Russia Local Government Day is celebrated for the first time. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the decree on establishment of the new holiday on June 10, 2012.
The holiday date is chosen not casually – the 21st of April is the day of publishing the Letter of Grant to cities signed by Catherine II in 1785. The letter of grant laid the foundation to development of the Russian legislation on local government.
In Bashkortostan Republic now there are 895 municipal unions, including nine city districts, 54 municipal areas, 14 urban and 818 rural settlements.
The main celebrations on the occasion of the Local Government Day took place in the republic on April 19. Thus, in Ufa awarding of the best representatives of municipal service of Bashkiria was held. The President RB Rustem Khamitov took part in the celebrations.
