Russian stage of the World Student Games torch relay-race started
Russian stage of the Student Games’ torch relay-race solemnly started today in Vladivostok from the campus of the Far East Federal University on the island “Russian”. The first Vice-Premier of Russian Government Igor Shuvalov, President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and other top officials have taken part in the ceremony, news agency “Tatar-Inform” reports.
The Student Games’ torch was lit on July 12, 2012, in Sorbonne. Further the torch has cruised all-around-the world on the sailer “Sedov”, overcoming 45 thousand nautical miles. The torch has been delivered from the sailer for Vladivostok the day before.
Today in the course of the solemn ceremony, broadcasted live by TV-channel “Russia 24”, a member of the sailer’s crew Anatoly Vasiliev has delivered the torch for the campus of the Far East Federal University. The head of Russian Sports Student Union Oleg Matytsin has lit the fire, accompanied by the student hymn “Gaudeamus”. Further the torch was taken by the first torch-holder, the captain of Kazan ice hockey team “AK BARS” Alexei Morozov.
In the course of the relay-race the Student Games’ torch will visit 30 biggest student centers of the country, including the capital of Bashkortostan. The final stage of the relay-race will run through 43 municipalities of Tatarstan. The trip of the Games’ torch will be over on July 6 in Kazan during the ceremony of opening of the World Student Games-2013.
