The Day of Bashkortostan’s Constitution is celebrated today, December 24. The main law RB was approved in 1993 and at that it was for the first time elaborated inside the Republic itself. All previous constitutions represented shortened analogues of Russian and Soviet constitutions.
The Constitution RB fixed the basics of democratic legal state and socially oriented economics on the territory of the region. Such notions as pluralism, free elections, Constitutional court, ombudsman for human rights and Audit Chamber appeared in life of our society with the new Constitution.
For 19 years the text of the Constitution underwent certain changes. Important changes were ins erted in to it in June 2006 but fundamental basics of the Constitution were preserved. New version of the Constitution fixed continuity of the key ideas, preservation of the basic principles in construction of Republican legal system, provision of state integrity and observation of the norms of international law.
In July 2012 Republican parliamentarians again altered the Constitution and those changes were connected with certain amendments in federal legislation. The federal law provided that the top official of a Russian region is elected on the base of universal equal and direct suffrage through secret ballot.
