Ecological restoration of the lake Shamsutdin is implemented in Bashkiria
The works for ecological restoration of the lake Shamsutdin are running in Birski region of Bashkiria. As ecologists explain, for the last two years the water level in the lake started swiftly dropping because of shallowness, resulted in death of fish and serious losses of flora and fauna.
Press secretary of Ministry for nature management and ecology RB Nina Nikandrova reports that in order to preserve the lake it is decided to restore its ecology. At present time a pump station is installed on the bank of Belaya-river near the pontoon bridge of the town of Birsk. The total volume of the water, pumped into the lake, makes up about one hundred thousand cubic meters daily.
The deputy Minister for nature management and ecology RB Elena Shekina says there is no other way to solve the problem of the lake’s recovery.
“The level of the lake is higher than that in Belaya-river, so filling of the lake with flood waters looks very problematic. Now we undertake all necessary steps for maximal water pumping and according to our forecasts we have to pump about four million cubic meters of water into the lake” – the deputy Minister explained.
The pump station will be working till the end of the year. The means for the lake’s ecological restoration were allocated from Republican budget. The works for restoration of the lake expected to be over in 2013, press service of Ministry for nature management and ecology RB reported.
For the reference; the lake Shamsutdin is considered a monument of nature with the area 320 hectares. About 20 species of fish and various waterfowls inhabit the lake. This monument of nature has scientific, environmental and recreational significance.
