All-Russian exhibition of pigeons “Ufa Spartak-2012” has taken place in Culture House “UZEMIC”, Ufa, on November 24.
More than 300 pigeon-breeders from 14 Russian cities – Kazan, Samara, Orsk, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk – from CIS states – Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan – and from towns and regions of Bashkiria gathered in Ufa. More than 200 pigeon breeds have been demonstrated at the exhibition, including the popular Bashkir breed “Ufa Spartak”.
The chairman of the Bashkir Republican Union of pigeon-breeders Uri Baimurzin reports there are about 300 pigeon-breeders in Ufa now. Almost all of them were born in after-war times. Every Sunday they gather in the Central market of the city and regularly leave Ufa to take part in other pigeon exhibitions.
The cost of one pigeon amounts to 700-1000 rubles. Some rare species have been sold for 1000 dollars at present exhibition.
The jury, consisting of the experts, has determined the best species of pigeon breeds in five nominations.
