A seminar of parliamentarians, devoted to protection of reproductive health, is held in Astana

The seminar “Legislation of Kazakhstan in sphere of protection of reproductive health and reproductive rights of citizens within the frames of the action program of the international conference for population and development”, initiated by Kazakhstan’s committee for social-cultural development, the national commission for women’s affairs and family-demographic policy under the President of Kazakhstan in association with the UNO Population Fund, is held in Astana today, October 29.

The report of the State Duma deputy, a member of the committee for health protection Salia Murzabaeva (Bashkortostan) is included into the agenda. Her assistant, a candidate of medical sciences Almira Baiturina will introduce the report about legislation of Russian Federation, regulating the problems of population reproductive health protection, to parliamentarians of Kazakhstan. Deputies of the National Assembly of Korea and Lithuanian Seim will also tell about their law-making experience in this sphere.

Discussion of the problems in sphere of reproductive health protection by parliamentarians with participation of international experts is called to contribute to formation of the unified legal principles of legislation in sphere of reproductive health protection in CIS. In accordance with the decision of the permanent commission for social policy and human rights of CIS Inter-Parliamentary Commission the model law “Protection of reproductive health and rights in CIS states” is elaborated now. The State Duma deputy Salia Murzabaeva guides the workgroup, responsible for preparation of this bill. The concept of the model law was approved on October 16 at the meeting of the CIS permanent commission in Saint-Petersburg.
