The capital of Bashkortostan will receive the first in the history of Russia national relay race of Olympic torch of the XXII Winter Olympic Games-2014 in Sochi in 2013. The conference with participation of the acting Minister for youth policy and sport RB Andre Ivanuta, held in the news agency “Bashinform” today, October 24, was devoted to this event.
The Olympic torch will run through 83 Russian regions in 2013. It will stay in Ufa for two days in December (the date isn’t yet divulged).
“During these two days Bashkortostan can demonstrate the places of interest of our region and cultural traditions to residents of other Russian regions” – Andre Ivanuta reported – “Any person, not younger than 14, may take part in the relay race and criterion of the choice is still kept in secret”.
The route of the Olympic relay race will run through the whole of Russia and 90% of Russian population, i.e. about 130 million people, will be found in one-hour access from its dislocation. The relay race will last for 123 days and will become the longest in the history of winter Olympic Games and among all national relay races, running on the territory of the country, receiving the games.
14 torch-carriers will bring the Olympic Fire and more than 30 thousand volunteers expected to be involved in this process. The relay race will overcome more than 65 thousand kilometers.
