The state emblem and the state hymn of Bashkortostan were approved 19 years ago – October 12, 1993.
The birth of the most important state symbols was anticipated by new status of the Republic, stated in the Declaration of state sovereignty. The state flag of the Republic was approved on February 25, 1992 (February 25 is celebrated in Bashkortostan as the Day of State Flag in the memory about this historical event). The state emblem and the state hymn were approved slightly later – on October 12, 1993.
The work over the state emblem was going on during one year and a half. 40 variants have been submitted to the contest in total complexity. On October 12, 1993, the Supreme Soviet has passed the law about state emblem of Bashkortostan. The project, approved by the Republican parliament, was designed by the painter of the publishing house “KITAP” Fazletdin Islakhov. The state emblem RB represents the picture of Salavat Ulaev’s monument on the background of the rising sun, found inside the circle, surrounded by the national ornament. The florescence of saltwort and the ribbon, decorated in colors of the state flag RB with the writing “Bashkortostan” on the white background, are located lower. According to the rules of heraldry it isn’t accustomed to show a concrete person on emblems but one should take into account that there are no portraits of Salavat Ulaev and his monument represents a generalized image of Bashkir fighter for peace and justice.
The law about state hymn of the Republic was passed the same day – October 12. The solemn melody “Republic” by Farit Idrisov has become the hymn. The text for the hymn was written in 2008. The authors of the text in Bashkir language are national poet Ravil Bikbaev and well-known scientist and writer Rashit Shakurov. The text was translated into Russian by Farit Idrisov and Svetlana Churaeva.
