International Chess Day to be celebrated in Ufa

In the I.Yakutov’s Ufa city recreation park, the events devoted to the International Chess Day will be held on Thursday, July 19.

The holiday was initiated by the Volunteer centre of the Bashkir State Medical University at support of Radio Vanya 89,0 FM. The program includes a quiz with sweet prizes, tournament on chess and draughts. Also adults and children will be taught to mould chess pieces out of playdough.

Since 1966, all over the world the International Chess Day is celebrated on July, 20. This celebration is held by the decision of FIDE — the World Chess federation. India is a birthplace of chess. The chaturanga game which is the ancestor of the chess game appeared in the V century there. In the territory of Russia, chess game appeared in IX-X centuries approximately. Chess is a board game on the 64-checked board, where 32 chess pieces are placed (16 black and 16 white pieces). Two partners play the game. The purpose of the game is to mate the opponent’s king.
