The news agency “Tatar-Inform” reports the finalists of all-Russian lingual contest “Polyglot” will gather on April 4-7 in the capital of the XXVII World Student Games-2013 – Kazan, in the youth center “Volga”. The contest is held with assistance of the Kazan (Volga) Federal University and executive directorate “Kazan-2013” and the Student League of Tatarstan will sel ect potential volunteers and interpreters for the Student Games in Kazan.
The contest “Polyglot” is held in two nominations: for students, studied at professional lingual faculties, and for non-lingual students. The knowledge of at least two languages – English and one more has to be chosen from German, French, Spanish, Chinese and Arab – is obligatory.
The elimination stages of the contest have taken place at the Russian universities, being the universities of the Student Games in accordance with the agreement of cooperation with the executive directorate “Kazan-2013”. These stages aroused high interest among students, studying foreign languages.
141 students fr om 27 institutes of Tatarstan, Moscow, Samara, Ufa, Izhevsk, Yoshkar-Ola, Orenburg and other Russian cities will take part in the finals. Within its frames competitors have to pass written and oral tests and to become acquainted with work of volunteers and interpreters at the forthcoming Student Games. Thereby the contest will become one of the stages for recruitment of volunteers for the XXVII World Summer Student Games-2013 in Kazan. Besides, winners of the contest will get the right to work on probation at the Asian-Pacific Cooperation Summit-2012 in Vladivostok and at the student world rowing, padding and shooting championships, held also in Kazan in August-September.
