Ritual festival “Tatar Wedding” has taken place in the village Buzdiak in the Tatar historical-cultural center “Kilimovo”.
The director of the center Guzelle Latypova has told that the arrival of the young couple to the bridegroom’s house is considered one of the most bright and emotional moments of the show (“kilen toshu” in Tatar). This is also a long-expected moment for the husband’s relatives, since many of them haven’t seen their new relative yet. Relatives and folks of the bridegroom meet the couple, accompanied by numerous guests, with fresh bread and cups with honey and butter. Mother puts the pillow, which the bride has to stand on, before the house’s door. Pillow is considered the symbol of prosperity. After that relatives present bread to the couple and everyone tries to bite a bigger piece off because this is the symbol of leadership at home. The bridegroom’s mother gives honey and butter to the bride and says: “Be sweet as honey and amenable as butter”. This tradition demonstrates good attitude to the daughter-in-law.
After that the young couple enters the house and the woman, happy in marriage, goes behind them with pillow in her hands, which she puts near the newlyweds. Further the relatives bring dowry in.
After that the riot “Road to Water” comes. Young wife, accompanied by guests, has to bring water home on yoke and at that she mustn’t spill even a drop, otherwise she’ll never be prosperous. The feast is the last moment of Tatar wedding, during which the guests try traditional Tatar dishes: noodle soup, thinly cut meat and others.
